I know this is somewhat early to be talking about this subject, but I felt it important to ride a certain hobby horse of mine—supporting Halloween ComicFest again this year! It takes place on Saturday, October 26!
I think Free Comic Book Day continues to soar even higher every year, and I hope the same can be said about Halloween ComicFest coming this month as well!
I thought this week I’d talk about why NYCC is important for the industry as well as what I felt works on many levels.
In just a few days, the four-day New York Comic Con will get underway. It’s one of my very favorite conventions all year, and this year DC and Warner Bros. are shining their light on everyone’s madcap crazy girl, Harley Quinn!
This past Saturday, September 21, was the yearly celebration of DC’s best-known character, Batman. It was also part of the 80th anniversary event for the Dark Knight, and it received a lot of attention. I was interested in seeing how it would go, especially since Batman has been my favorite hero since I discovered his last name was my first name. Oh, and it was possible, no matter how unlikely, that he was someone I could emulate if I tried hard enough!
This past weekend, I attended the One-Year Anniversary celebration at BAMF! Comics Coffee Community in Maitland, Florida. September 14th was the exact date when, a year ago, the store opened.
As Marvel continues to celebrate their 80th anniversary, the House of Ideas has been getting a lot of well-deserved attention.
Just when I thought I’d seen everything possible in the comic con universes, along came Dragon Con! I had heard it was crowded in the past, and there were a lot of people there, but the benefits far outweighed any potential inconveniences!
This past weekend I was at Infinity Toy and Comic Convention for the second year in a row! It was a great time on several levels, including the fact that we could drive about 20 minutes from home to this con! How different was that!
One phenomenon in comics that always grabs our attention is when a hero turns to “the dark side.” The latest example can be found in Batman/Superman taking on several DC heroes made “evil” by The Batman Who Laughs.
The debate has been raging on for years now: What will comics be like in the years ahead, if they survive at all? When I come across someone, often an expert in another industry, who enters into comics and says they know how to “fix” what’s wrong with comic books, I’m worried these days. Several of them have poured boatloads of cash into these endeavors, and so far I haven’t noticed any change in how things are being done, honestly. But still contenders make their presence known and take their shots. Some are at it even now. THE NEW GUYS…
During a recent sci-fi/Trek convention, I ran a discussion panel on The CW’s upcoming ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ event, scheduled to appear this December and January. There was a lot of speculation about just what would, could and should happen during this special series of episodes. Well, now that some time has passed, we’re getting some idea as to just what we’ll be treated to in the months ahead.
This past weekend, I was at GalaxyCon Raleigh 2019 in North Carolina! This convention was previously known as Raleigh Supercon, but a new owner bought some of the SuperCon franchise, so some of the Supercons will still have that name moving forward. The ones under the new ownership are called GalaxyCons.
This year’s SDCC has happened, and we’ll be sorting out everything that took place in the months to come! But we can be happy that we made it through the very busy 2019 SDCC!
This week begins one of those times that many comics fans look forward to with great anticipation: San Diego Comic Con (SDCC), held this year from Thursday, July 18th, through Sunday, the 22nd, with a preview night on Wednesday, the 17th!
