You’re a robot that doesn’t sleep, doesn’t eat, and yet your creator wants you to spend all your free time contemplating the universe. What’s an atomic powered robot to do? If you are Atomic Robo, you find a way to get yourself into trouble (and quite possibly the greatest adventure of all time).
While the time tripping Atomic Robo tales featuring vampires from other dimensions and dinosaurs with a god complex are fun wild rides worthy of many major awards, it’s the supernatural tales that seem to work best.

While Atomic Robo is far and away one of the best comic book characters created by Scott Wegener and Brian Clevinger, Doctor Dinosaur runs a close second. Scott Wegener sketched up Doctor D. at a recent convention, and you can see the whole thing after the jump.
The Fictory continues to work on the Atomic Robo animated short, and they’ve released a teaser trailer to get more people interested in the project.
This is a project that has been in the works for a while, and if you are interested in seeing more, YouTube has several shot tests that give you an idea of what Robo will look like in action.
A trope is a recognizable theme used in storytelling. The kidnapped princess, the final battle, the training montage, these are all tropes we have seen again and again. Usually recognition of a familiar trope is a good thing, it lets the audience know how they should feel about things and sets them up either for a satisfying conclusion or an excited twist. But what happens when a trope goes stale? When you can’t watch two hours of TV without seeing the same situation over and over, like the writers just emptied their cliche bladders all over the place? Some themes have suffered this fate, through excessive use now they accomplish the opposite of what the writers want. They take the viewer out of the experience. What follows is a list of tropes that I find tiresome, troubling and most of all, trite.
I’m a bit split on the release of Atomic Robo #4.4 this week. On the one hand, I’m super elated that another Robo issue is upon us, but on the other, I’m sad that this is the last issue for this story arc. Regardless, Red 5 Comics sent over a sneak peek of the issue that you can check out after the jump.
