Another Stargirl entry today, this time by Erin King. I like the Manga influence on the character, and thankfully Erin doesn’t take the style to the far extreme.
Browsing: Art Appreciation Moment of the Day
We haven’t featured Gene Gonzales in a while, and his recent Star Girl sketch prompted us to move him front and center for today’s Art Appreciation Moment of the Day.
It’s never too late to get on the G.I. Joe bandwagon, and today’s installment features work by Patrick French.
Some weeks, the Major Spoilers Art Appreciation Moment of the Day follows a theme, while other weeks, it is completely random. Last week (August 16- 21, 2009) we ran art that indeed did have a theme, we just didn’t tell you what it was. Now is your chance to guess to win the first three volumes of the Tank Girl trade paperbacks. Go back and give a look-see at the entries from last week (August 16 – 21, 2009), and see if you can figure out the theme. When you think you have it correct, send an email to contest@majorspoilers.com…
Readers of fantasy novels know Frank Frazetta’s work even at a mere glance, so it should come as no surprise that he’s featured in the Art Appreciation Moment of the Day with this piece of Bran Mak Morn.
John Lucas steps up to the plate today, with his interpretation of Sailor Steve Costigan. I’ve seen a couple of artists take on the boxing pulp adventurer, and many attempt to portray him as looking like The Goon. Fortunately, John brings a unique take on this classic character.
Gary Gianni does some fantastic work that looks like it was done by the masters hundreds of years ago. This Soloman Kane piece was created in 1998. Wowza!
Kull and Conan are not the same. Kull is from Atlantis, was a slave, a pirate, and outlaw and then a king. Conan is from Cimerria. He was a thief, outlaw, mercenary and pirate, before becoming king. They are not alike. Any resemblance to yesterday’s Art Appreciation Moment of the Day, and today’s Kull entry by Atlua Siriwardane are purly coincidental, and anything said to the contrary, will be denied.
Conan makes an appearance in the Art Appreciation Moment of the Day, with a piece by Carlo Pagulayan. I’m digging the fine detail of this drawing that he used as a tryout for the redesign of the current Dark Horse Comics Conan series.
It’s Friday, and our Red Sonja Art Appreciation Moment of the Day week has come to an end. To take us out, it’s a piece by Alvin Lee for the Red Sonja Goes East – One Shot from Dynamite Entertainment. The art is fitting for the story, as Red Sonja takes on a Manga-esque quality.
Another installment of Red Sonja for your Art Appreciation Moment of the Day, this time from Paul Renaud from his cover to Red Sonja: Doom of the Gods #3.
Our impromptu Red Sonja themed week continues, with this piece by Roy Cover. She’s a bit disproportional in the chest region to really swing a sword, but the hair and face rendering more than makes up for that.
Today’s Red Sonja entry comes from Chris Stevens, and it looks pretty nice. It was done as a commission, which is nice, as we get to see what a particular artist’s take on a character is like, even if the artist has never worked on that title.
Here’s another favorite artist – J. Scott Campbell offering up his interpretation of Red Sonja.
