REVIEW: Archie #636

Or – “The Part Of Regina Mantle Will Be Played By Kim Kardashian.”

Archie Comics has been at the forefront of comic culture lately, and have probably been discussed more in the past 5 years than in the previous 20.  Given that they’re keeping the Archie tradition while embracing diversity and political discourse, as well as guest-starring Gene Simmons, you have to appreciate what they’re up to.  And when Sabrina’s involved, anything can happen, which is awesome in so many ways.  In this issue, the genders of our cast get magically swapped and things get weird…  Your Major Spoilers review awaits!

REVIEW: Archie #630

Or – “This Cover Has The Makeup On All The Wrong People…”

Veronica should have the Demon makeup, as she is the one with the hair to carry it off.  (Plus, I think many people will agree that she would be the most interesting one to carry off Gene Simmons’ trademark tongue thing.)

Jughead should be Ace Frehley, the ethereal Celestial spaceman who could clearly eat as many hamburgers as he wanted.

Betty should be the upbeat, front-and-center Starchild (albeit one with a slightly modified upper body leotard.)

And, finally, Archie should be the Catman, both much maligned figures with bad hair.

Next issue, Reggie, Moose, Dilton and Big Ethel should dress up as GWAR.

REVIEW: Archie #629

Or – “I Like To Think This Crosses Over With The Old KISS Series…”

There’s something awesome and iconic about the world of Riverdale and Archie Comics.  They’ve successfully persevered through nearly eight decades of progress, changing with the times while maintaining the core of their portrayals.  I’m just worried that The Demon is going to steal BOTH Betty and ‘Ronnie from Arch.

(Hey, if anybody can do it, Gene Simmons can…  Just ask Lois Griffin.)
