Wayne Hall creates the Wayne's Comics Podcast. He’s interviewed Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, John Layman, Kyle Higgins, Phil Hester, Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Gray, David Petersen, Christos Gage, Mike Grell, and Matt Kindt. On this site each week, he writes his "Comics Portal" column (general comics comments and previews) and reviews comics.

Sometimes I feel married to my mobile devices. I go everywhere with at least one, often two of them. Siri even speaks to me when I ask for directions! She knows a lot more than I do! Can an android designed to meet a person’s needs be far behind? That’s what this comic is all about!

A comic about a “real-life super-hero” needs your help! This week, I talk with Onrie Kompan, the driving force behind the Yi Soon Shin trilogy of comics focusing on a hero who saved his people from an invading force by his own wits and skills in military strategy. Onrie’s close to ending up the second trilogy of books, these subtitled “Fallen Avenger.” Nearly 40,000 copies of this series have been sold, many of them by Onrie at comic-book conventions around the country. Onrie talks about why he needs your help and his experiences interacting with fans and other creators in…

“All of us are free, but not each of us.” I always love it when a novel or short story is converted into the comics format. That’s because those forms of storytelling usually have a clear beginning, middle and end. Comics, on the other hand, often have ongoing storylines that go for years (sometimes even decades) at a time. That’s because comics are a habitual medium – the company and creators want you to buy their product each and every month! Not only that, science fiction often deals with subjects comics tend to avoid. This series, basic on Robert Heinlein’s…

Man, it’s tough attending a big convention when you’re sick as a dog! But the motto for Megacon 2015 was “It’s Fun Time!” and so I soldiered through this high-octane event and still enjoyed what I could!

A great comic often does a lot more than entertain – it educates! This week, I interview Mark Zuehlke, a historian who has scripted The Loxleys and Confederation, a great comic from Renegade Arts Entertainment that discusses how Canada was formed and what influence the United States played in that creation. This book is the sequel to The Loxleys and The War of 1812, another great historical graphic novel that taught me a lot about that war and its aftermath. We follow a family whose existence parallels the formation of Confederation, and provides us with a human perspective on this…

I reviewed the first issue of this miniseries, and I now get to wrap things up by talking about its final issue! What a terrific ride it’s been! The “Invasion America” story reaches its exciting conclusion as Agent Nick Morgan and his doppelgänger, Nicholas, race to prevent Mackenzie Cartwright from dropping the Rapture Device on “our” Washington, D.C. It’s a game-changing issue featuring triumph, tragedy, and a betrayal that will reveal the ultimate enemy of the multiverse.

All hail Darkseid! Alternate universe stories can be great because literally anything can happen. You can’t do that in a regular ongoing title because you want a reader to pick up the next issue and find it in almost exactly the same position as it was last month. That’s been part of the fun in reading Earth 2 since it first was released. You can make Alan Scott gay and explore his relationships while getting some good publicity out of it, for instance. You can have a different member of the Wayne family be Batman, and it lets you put…

This week is when the change begins. Convergence #0 arrives in comics shops this Wednesday, which just happens to be April 1, the day commonly celebrated as April Fool’s Day. Don’t worry, though, Marvel isn’t far behind. I’ve indicated many times that I don’t enjoy “event” storytelling. I particularly don’t like it when several “events” overlap each other. For me, the next several months will be “Event Hell” because just about every comic from DC and Marvel will be an “event” tied to a big miniseries. There are times I wish I didn’t have such a good memory. I’ve read…
