Today, Major Spoilers brings you the Top 25 Toys sold through Diamond Comic Distributors in the month of August 2008. With The Dark Knight being huge hit in the theaters, it’s no surprise to find DC dominating the top half of the chart with Batman merch.

Warren Ellis, Alan Davis, and Adi Granov have teamed up for Astonishing X-Men: Ghost Boxes, as two-part tie-in to Warren Ellis’ Astonishing X-Men arc. Marvel Comics has sent Major Spoilers a sneak peek of the first issue that arrives October 15, 2008.
Sad news for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, Universal Pictures has decided to pull out of the three picture deal for the CGI adaptation of Tintin. The biggest reason for the break in the deal wasn’t Spielberg trying to break DreamWorks away from Paramount, but the $130 million budget. In a day an age where $130 million seems like a drop in the bucket for a franchise that could literally net Universal ten times that in world wide distribution, something certainly seems fishy. Perhaps it was the 30% of gross Spielberg and Jackson wanted – meaning Tintin would have to gross $425 million before it broke even and Universal started seeing a profit.
But fear not Herge fans, the duo have taken their proposal to Paramount… oh, yeah, that whole split thing might be a hang up. Paramount has had the proposal for several weeks now, so it Tintin is simply awaiting a yay or nay from the suits.
Probably the most exciting news to filter through the Interwebs over the weekend, was the story of Stephen Chow signing to direct and star in the Green Hornet. Now I don’t know how many Major Spoilers readers have seen Kung Fu Hustle or Shaolin Soccer but those two flicks are great examples of how to blend action, humor, and kick-ass special effects into films that work.
My earlier fears were Judd Apatow, who is brilliant by the way, would try to tackle this film, which really wouldn’t have been a good mix, but now with this news, my interest in The Green Hornet has suddenly spiked.
Chow will play Kato to Seth Rogen’s Britt Reid (a.k.a. The Green Hornet), with the film expected to hit theaters on June 25, 2010.
Diamond Comic Distributors sent Major Spoilers a rundown of the top 50 manga titles for August 2008. Probably most interesting is finding the World of Warcraft title taking the number one spot, as I really expected a vampire, or space, or space vampire, or Naruto title to take the top spot. Also a surprise, was to find another Blizzard Entertainment property, Starcraft, taking the number three spot on the list.
