The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
CYBERPUNK 2077 TRAUMA TEAM #1 (OF 4)
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Miguel Valderrama
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Nadia, an assistant EMT for a privately-owned business known as Trauma Team International, is the sole survivor of a failed rescue mission turned shootout. After she agrees to continue work for an upcoming extraction mission, Nadia and her new team find themselves in an even more dangerous and life-threatening situation.
Featuring the incredible creative team of writer Cullen Bunn (Harrow County, Uncanny X-Men) and illustrator Miguel Valderrama (Giants)!
CHRISTOPHER: I will admit that the only reason why I am interested in this is because of the video game coming out. However, knowing that Cullen Bunn and Miguel Valderrama are on the creative team means that the story is sure to be good.
MARS ATTACKS RED SONJA #2
Writer: John Layman
Artist: Fran Struken
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Hyborian-era Martians attack Hyborian-era humans — including Red Sonja! But Sonja’s got a whole posse of new friends and one very important charge to keep safe, and nothing, not even bug-eyed aliens, is going to keep her on the run for long. Swords, ogres and ray guns! What the heck else could you possibly want?! By the deranged team of John “Chew This!” Layman and Fran “The Man” Strukan!
STEPHEN: I really enjoyed the first issue, and I kind of want to see the aliens turn to the dark side as Sonja kicks their wrinkly butts.
REAVER #11
Writer: Justin Jordan
Artist: Niko Henrichon and Becky Cloonan
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “THE GRIM AFTER,” Part Five The truth has been revealed. But there may be one enemy Essen Breaker can’t kill…his own past.
CHRISTOPHER: I admit that the twist at the end of the last issue wasn’t terribly meaningful to me but it will be meaningful to Breaker. He has regressed to his murderous ways and I want to know what he is going to do now that he was betrayed.
SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN #10
Writer: James Tynion IV
Artist: Werther Dell’Edera
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: When Erica’s Handler forces a confrontation on the street of Archer’s Peak, Erica must decide where her loyalties lie — to her employers, or to the people who need her?
INGRID: This is such an intricate, deftly plotted book. More than just a monster story, it invokes horror at several different levels. As the plot advances, the characters are faced with bigger problems and increasingly difficult choices. It is a nail-biter through and through.
THE RISE OF ULTRAMAN #1
Writer: Mat Groom and Kyle Higgins
Artist: Michael Cho and Francesco Manna
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $5.99
SOLICITATION: In darkness there lurks Kaiju – terrifying and unfathomable monsters. Between Kaiju and the rest of us stands the United Science Patrol! But who are these enigmatic defenders, and how do they perform their miracles? Shin Hayata and Kiki Fuji have spent half a lifetime trying to find out – and their quest is about to drive them toward a decades-old dark secret and put them on a collision course with a mysterious warrior from beyond the stars! Kyle Higgins (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Mat Groom (Self/Made) and Francesco Manna (AVENGERS) reimagine the classic origin of a pop culture icon as THE RISE OF ULTRAMAN begins!
INGRID: I am really interested to see what this is all about. Ultraman has so much history behind him, and I think it could be fun to see a current take on him. And, honestly, who doesn’t love a good kaiju story besides?
STEPHEN: I’m very curious to see what Marvel brings to the table when it takes on a property from Japan. I mean, we’ve seen what Japan has done with Marvel and DC properties, so now it is time to flip the script.
ROBOT OVERLORD: You must try, or hate yourself for not trying.
