Given that I’m not much of a “sports” guy, you might be surprised to know that I was on my dormitory intermural softball team in college.  Our rallying cheer was “We’ll kick your @$$ at Scrabble!”, which should give you some idea of our win/loss record.  The cheer was true, however, and I am to this very day banned from Scrabble with my family because nobody believes my words.  Similar bans are in play for video Jeopardy (I support this one, as I don’t like being yelled at) and for singing my go-to song, ‘Hey, Jealousy’ on Karaoke Revolution, making me wonder where YOU reign supreme, which leads us to today’s pastime query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) will pummel you in the digital Smackdown ring, but saves the real fury for ‘Asteroids’, asking: In what game arena (video, board or otherwise) do you reign supreme?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

  1. Probably board games, but with a specific caveat: It only applies the first time I play a particular game. I have some supernatural form of beginner’s luck. 7 times out of 10 I win a board game the first time I play it, but only rarely do I ever win the same game again.
