IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
ACTION COMICS #1018
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: John Romita, Klaus Janson
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: One of the biggest Superman stories of all time continues in “Metropolis Doom” part two! War and chaos strikes the heart of Metropolis. The Invisible Mafia, Lex Luthor, and the Legion of Doom all stand their ground to take over Metropolis. Superstar writer Brian Michael Bendis reunites with comic art legends John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson to bring you a Superman story for the ages! Guest starring the Justice League, Young Justice, and more!
STEPHEN: The Invisible Mafia AND The Legion of Doom. Superman’s going to need some help on this one me thinks. I don’t care what all the other “commentators” say about Brian Michael Bendis and what he is doing with the Superman titles, but he is bringing me – and a lot of other readers – back to reading DC Comics.
KILLADELPHIA #2
Writer: Rodney Barnes
Artist: Jason Shawn Alexander
Publisher: Image Comics, Inc.
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “SINS OF THE FATHER,” Part Two Jimmy’s horrifying discoveries regarding his father’s murder lead him to seek police coroner Jose Padilla’s help. But when they discover the force behind Philadelphia’s vampire outbreak is none other than former U.S. President John Adams, will Jimmy’s investigation reveal a way to save the city, or is he just dragging Jose to hell with him?
INGRID: The dead are restless in Philadelphia, and only Jimmy Sangster and Jose Padilla know about it. Part vampire story, part police procedural, part medical outbreak horror, this book has some brilliant takes on what vampirism could be and how much of a long game the main vampire might be playing. Excellent writing and moody art tie it all together with style.
RUBY FALLS #4 (OF 4)
Writer: Ann Nocenti
Artist: Flavia Biondi
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: In the dramatic finale, Lara’s cold case heats up as she nears the end of her fearless pursuit. But it’s not just about answers anymore-lives are endangered, and a broken town must come together to heal its harrowing history. Will Lana and Blair save Clara before the river runs red?
CHRISTOPHER: This series has been crazy to observe. It is a cold case mystery novel that features social issues and memories of the past. I’m excited to see how it will conclude.
INGRID: Ruby Falls looks at a cold case through the multiple lenses of time and imperfect memory and uses it as a vehicle to explore the concept of a fallen woman. What does that mean, and who decides that she is fallen? Is this re-examination doomed to repeat history, or will the circle be broken this time?
THOR #1
Writer: Donny Cates
Artist: Nic Klein
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: A BRAND-NEW, SUPERSTAR CREATIVE TEAM TAKES THE KING OF ASGARD TO NEW REALMS OF GLORY!
The prince is now a king. All Asgard lies before Thor, the God of Thunder. And after many months of war, the Ten Realms are finally at peace. But the skies above the Realm Eternal are never clear for long. The Black Winter is coming. And the God of the Storm will be powerless before it.
CHRISTOPHER: I skimmed through the review copy and was caught with the visual aspect of the issue and that is enough reason for me to check it out.
STEPHEN: A lot of hype around this comic. We are reviewing it on the next Major Spoilers Podcast (thanks to you), and I think this might be one of the best comics this week.
