Recently, my daughter has discovered The Paramount Network (I don’t have the heart to tell her it’s just Spike TV rebranded) and has become obsessed with ‘ink Masters’, to the point where she wants me to know that Dave Navarro is a god.  (She was a little shocked when I told her that he used to be in The Red Hot Chili Peppers, though, having no idea that he used to be a musician.)  She’s begun brainstorming her own future tattoos, which fills me with dread but also impresses me with her creativity, leading to today’s inkwash query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) can never decide what do have for a Twitter avatar, much less something permanently attached to my flesh, asking:  What pop culture image would you be willing to permanently put on your skin as your tattoo?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

    Probably none, to be honest. If I had unlimited funds and time, it would be huge, traditional full color thing. Like ones you see on Yakuza dudes.

  2. I’m a big fan of The Legend of Zelda so I’d like the triforce on the back of my hand. The tattoo would have the courage part brighter than the other two. The inking would also need to be less painful than I expect it would be.

    I’ve always liked the idea of a tattoo that looks like the skin is torn away to reveal a super suit (Spider-Man’s?) underneath. I’d probably get it on my upper arm/shoulder if I ever had the courage and the money at the same time.

  4. Not really a tattoo guy personally, but if I had to absolutely get one, it might be the Superman “S” shield. But then I’d need to go to the gym and get bulked up so I did it justice…

    @Cody: Pretty cool triforce idea.
