This weekend, we had a discussion in my house about The Sub-Mariner, who is NOT the one just under the Mariner in the hierarchy, but is in fact the original undersea hero, two years before the better known Aquaman.  Rumors of a Namor movie have swirled about for years, but after Jason Momoa’s turn as Aquaman, I worry that he’s going to be perceived as somehow imitating the hero he inspired years ago.  The question of Aquaman or Namor is more than just blonde vs. dark or orange scales vs. green, it’s a comparison of whether you want wings on your ankles or fins on your calves, leading to today’s undersea query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) thinks the real answer may be Princess Ariel, but doesn’t want to get near that character’s fanbase right now, asking: Which Sea King is the Real Thing: Aquaman or Namor?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.
