While one can argue the merits of variant covers, sometimes, a variant cover collection comes along that seems just right. The Darwyn Cooke variants from DC a few years ago was brilliant, and I think Valiant Entertainment may be on to something with the announcement that Whilce Portacio is creating variant covers for the Pre-Order Edition of the Killers #1-5.

Written by B. Clay Moore (SAVAGE, Hawaiian Dick) and drawn by Fernando Dagnino (Superman, Suicide Squad), the Bundle is available to pre-order now at local comic book shops by the final order cutoff (FOC) date of Monday, July 8th. Issue #1 is set to debut on Wednesday, July 31st.

In KILLERS, five elite assassins are recruited by their former sensei to perform a deadly task for him, but what does he want from them, and what do they gain from helping him?

The five-issue mini-series kicks off in July 2019, and is scheduled to run to November 2019. Each issue will be 40-pages in length with plenty of extra content including creator commentary, behind-the-scenes, character designs and more. I will admit that I like the idea of variant covers including bonus content, providing the issue price doesn’t skyrocket – which is exactly what Valiant is doing! The price for the Pre-Order Edition with the bonus content and the Whilce Portacio variant cover will remain $3.99.

I think Valiant is on to something here…
