IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

THE LONG CON #9
Writer: Dylan Meconis and Ben Coleman
Artist: E. A. Denich
Publisher: Oni Press, Inc.
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Victor and Dez face a deadly trial by nerd pub quiz! Odious fanboy Judge Decky will send one hero to a dark, noticeably sticky oblivion, while the other gets an express trip to a verdant, verbose paradise. Both are confronted by unexpected offers — but at what cost to the people of Long Con? Will our heroes give in to temptation, or will they seize their best, last chance to take down the Special Guest?

INGRID: If you’re looking some sharp humor, clever writing, and glorious visuals, look no further. The long, winding story of The Long Con is so entertaining (with just a touch of nuttiness) that it is a truly delightful read.

RONIN ISLAND #3
Writer: Greg Pak
Artist: Giannis Milonogiannis
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Though the Island’s shelter provides protection, Hana can no longer watch the slaughter on the mainland and leaves her home with General Sato to save the Shogunates’s civilians. Kenichi stays behind, unwilling and unable to understand her motivations.

MATTHEW: Pak and Milonogiannis have a winner on their hands here, a book so engaging that Stephen and I agree about it! I’m psyched for more of this story.

STEPHEN: This is a great series. The art is wonderful, and the hero rising elements are always hitting the right spot for me. Loved this from the first preview art, and I know you will, too.

SAMURAI JACK: LOST WORLDS #1
Writer: Paul Allor
Artist: Adam Bryce Thomas
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “Samurai Jack 2.0”! Under the leadership of the benevolent Samurai Jack, society has prospered-everything is in line with his philosophies, his storied stoicism, and of course his hair. Of course, this is all news to Jack who doesn’t much care for this impostor using his name. But which one is the real Samurai Jack?

MATTHEW: More Samurai Jack is always a good thing, and this premise sounds like it could be fascinating.

STAR WARS AOR: BOBA FETT #1
Writer: Greg Pak
Artist: Marc Laming
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: THE HUNTER’S HEART!
• As the implacable bounty hunter who tracked down HAN SOLO, BOBA FETT earned his reputation as one of the greatest villains in the galaxy.
• But what happens when Boba Fett picks up the trail of an actual villain?
• Find out what kind of heart – if any – beats under that MANDALORIAN armor!

MATTHEW: Who could turn down Album-Oriented Rock from the legendary bounty hunter? Featuring such hits as “As You Wish” and “Oh, No! I’m Dead! AIEEE!” This should be a real banger…

THESE SAVAGE SHORES #4
Writer: Ram V
Artist: Sumit Kumar
Publisher: Vault Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The shadow of war is cast over the land, where people and promises are broken alike. The smell of blood calls to beasts. Now is the time of monsters. Along these savage shores, where hope is folly, and fortune is the lie of a cruel whim.

INGRID: These Savage Shores is a brilliant and thoughtful book. It’s a story about monsters, but also about how very human they can be. And it’s about how monstrous humans can be. The setting is fascinating and the art is sublime. I cannot recommend this one highly enough.
