It can be tough to be a fan of ‘Family Guy.’  For one thing, the show is routinely just awful, cynical, obnoxious and disjointed, going for the some of the cheapest and most offensive jokes with regularity.  For another, even the best episodes tend to be really self-indulgent (which, honestly, given that the creator is also the voice of half the cast, isn’t all that shocking), but when the creators are on their game, it can be a very entertaining experience.  Even so, you just can’t tell anybody you enjoy it, which leads us to today’s freakin’ sweet query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) has recently been bumping into ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ a lot on cable, and even though it’s terrible, predictable and twee, I still kind of enjoy it, asking: What favorite bit of pop culture is the most awful thing you still love?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

90’s X-Men probably. I like the characters, but oh boy, those stories were bad. Artwork generally not great either.
