From Britain: The Knight!  From Argentina: The Gaucho!  From Italy: The Legionary!  From France: The Musketeer!  From Australia: The Ranger!  From Sweden: The Wingman!  Together, the are the Club of Heroes, known also as The Batman of Many Nations, bringing the whole Bat-thing to international audiences years before Batman, Inc. was even a thing.  For my part, I’m partial to the original look of Wingman (sort of a circus acrobat/alien bird-man ensemble), but I kind of unironically love all of these guys, leading to today’s bat-query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) still loves how they became the core of the Global Guardians in the Batman-free post-Crisis continuity, asking: Which of the international Club of Heroes is the BEST ersatz Batman?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.
