It’s no secret that I don’t care for the modern take on Hal Jordan as “utter jerk with no redeeming traits but he’s old-school masculine so whatever.”  One of the few exceptions to that rule is the depiction of his weird odd-couple friendship with The Flash, playing the midwestern scientist square against the West Coast hotshot pilot.  It’s not quite as much fun as Hal’s friendship with hothead liberal ex-billionaire Oliver Queen, but it’s right up there, leading to today’s pallin’ around query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) truly LOVES the camraderie between Spider-Woman and Captain Marvel, as well as those times that opposites Sun Boy and Star Boy would play D&D together, asking: Which fictional friends are the coolest super-buds of them all?

About Author

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

  1. Since its super, I’d say Bumblebee/Goldbug & Blaster from 80’s Transformers comics. Honorable mentions to Power Girl & Harley and X-23 & Gabby.

  2. Daniel Langsdale on

The most obvious answer popping in my mind is Marvel’s Power Man & Iron Fist. After a bit of thought, I’ll throw in Barbara Gordon and Dinah Lance over at the Distinguished Competition.
