The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

ARCHIE’S SUPERTEENS VS. CRUSADERS #2

Artist: Gary Martin
Publisher: Archie Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Archie Comics’ two superhero teams THE SUPERTEENS and THE MIGHTY CRUSADERS face off against the evil Dr. Zardox in the conclusion to this epic to-issue crossover event!

MATTHEW: I love how modern Archie is willing to embrace all manner of oddness in the service of a good story, and hope that this series means a higher profile for the Archie heroes (who don’t always get a lot of respect.)

BONE PARISH #1
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Jonas Scharf
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Cullen Bunn (Empty Man, The Unsound) returns to BOOM! Studios with a chilling necromantic horror story! A new drug is sweeping through the streets of New Orleans.one made from the ashes of the dead. Wars are being fought over who will control the supply, while the demand only rises. While the crime families wage war, users begin to experience terrifying visions of the dead coming back to life-through them.

STACY: A tale of drugs, family and magic set in the Big Easy, this looks to have a chance to fill that supernatural crime drama hunger that some of us get. Great book off to a great start.

BRITANNIA: LOST EAGLES OF ROME #1 (of 4)
Writer: Peter Milligan
Artist: Robert Gill
Publisher: Valiant Entertainment
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: AN ALL-NEW EPIC BEGINS! Valiant’s sold-out descent into the horrors of the ancient world returns with A BLOODSTAINED JUMPING-ON POINT from legendary comics master Peter Milligan (Detective Comics) and Harvey Award-nominated artist Robert Gill (BOOK OF DEATH) as Antonius Axia, history’s first detective, launches into an otherworldly mystery of monsters, magic, and conspiracy at the boundaries of human understanding…

The Roman standard – the eagle borne at the front of each Roman legion – was more than just a symbol of the soldiers that carried it… It was a symbol of Rome itself, the ultimate embodiment of the empire’s power…

But now, in the mist-shrouded Germanic forest of Tottenwald, the unthinkable has happened: A rampaging barbarian horde has crushed three of Rome’s most highly skilled detachments in battle… and captured their mighty Roman eagles.

His authority threatened by this all-too-public shame, the mad emperor Nero has dispatched Antonius Axia, the empire’s finest “detectioner” and hero of Britannia, and Achillia, the sword-wielding champion of the gladiatorial arena, to reclaim his stolen relics at any cost.

But what began as a simple mission will soon become a terrifying journey into the dark heart of belief itself, as the isolated woodlands of Rome’s enemies reveal unseen dimensions…and the true power of the legion’s lost eagles threatens to consume any who would pursue them…

INGRID: A detective story set in Ancient Rome during the reign of Nero is right up my alley. I love mysteries, but have a particular fondness for those set in a time or place that is not typical for them. And it has lovely, lovely art.

EDEN #1
Writer: Eric Henson
Artist: Michael Babinski
Publisher: Alterna Comics
Cover Price: $1.50
SOLICITATION: 2714. The Earth has been conquered by a brutal alien race. Our only hope is a team of unlikely heroes, led by the planet’s most formidable warrior, Brigadier General Neriah Willis. The utopian world of Eden offers refuge, but our heroes quickly discover something far more sinister is at play.

STACY: A fun sci-fi tale set in the far flung future, this book captures the feel of a bygone era of science fiction adventure. And the price alone makes it at least a must try!

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #1
Writer: James T Tynion IV
Artist: Raul Fernandez, Alvara Martinez
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: From the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE: NO JUSTICE! Earth’s magic once belonged to them. Now they want the magic back. But who exactly are they? It’s up to the new Justice League Dark to find out and stop this nightmarish new threat at all costs! After the events of NO JUSTICE, team leader Wonder Woman guides the misfit magic mix of Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Man-Bat and Detective Chimp against enemies too fantastic even for the Justice League. Plus, what awful things are coming through the Tree of Wonder? Dark days ahead…

STACY: I’m all about some dark, supernatural heroes, and this book fits that bill. While it isn’t perfect, it is solid and looks like it is going places.

THE LONG CON #1
Writer: Dylan Meconis and Ben Coleman
Artist: EA Denich
Publisher: Oni Press
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Five years ago, a cataclysmic event obliterated everything within a fifty mile radius of the Los Spinoza Convention Center—including the attendees of Long Con, the world’s biggest (and longest) comic convention. But unknown to the outside world, the con-goers not only survived, they kept the convention going. When proof of their survival surfaces, reporter Victor Lai is sent to investigate—after all, he was covering the con that fateful day and escaped mere minutes before everything went kablooie… abandoning his nerdy pal Dez in the process. So clearly he’s the perfect person for the job, and he won’t get trapped inside like some kinda idiot. Right?

INGRID: No, this isn’t about confidence tricksters. Imagine a cataclysmic event with the world’s biggest comics convention smack dab in the middle of it. Now imagine it’s five year’s later, and the convention is still going on. Intrigued? I sure am!

MR. AND MRS. X #1
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Oscar Bazaldua

We got it, as Kelly Thompson (HAWKEYE, ROGUE & GAMBIT) and Oscar Bazaldua (SPIDER-MAN, STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE) bring you the tantalizing tale of a modern marriage…X-MEN STYLE!

MATTHEW: I wasn’t excited when this seemed like it would be a Shadowcat and Colossus book, but now? I’m interested. Maybe it’s the cooler accents?

REAL SCIENCE ADVENTURES: THE NICODEMUS JOB #1
Writer: Brian Clevinger
Artist: Meredith McClaren
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: On the eve of the first Crusade, the fate of the world rests in the hands of a disgraced soldier, an assassin, an orphan, a scribe, and a thief who have no idea they’re pawns in a clash of civilizations. Heretical texts, ancient star maps, sacred geometries, and one impossible heist. The deepest dive into the history of Atomic Robo’s world starts right here!

INGRID: Anything in the Atomic Robo world catches my eye, but this is the start of a science fiction adventure that takes place in Constantinople in the 11th century. How cool is that!

STEPHEN: Real Science Adventures takes place in the world of Atomic Robo, and you know that Atomic Robo is a favorite at Major Spoilers, which means this is a must buy book!

SCOOBY-DOO TEAM-UP #40

But the investigation turns up more than expected when the gang comes face-to-mossy-face with the bayou’s horrifying hero, Swamp Thing! The only problem is…Swamp Thing may not be the only monster in the swamp.

STACY: Yep, more Scooby-Doo! This month he teams up with Swamp Thing in an adventure pairing that is a no-brainer. This one has swamps, voodoo, zombies, and a surprise guest villain that fits right in the mix!

SUPER PATRIOTIC HEROES HC

See the two-fisted, three-colored Miss America, The Fighting Yank, Super-American, U.S. Jones, Captain Freedom, Lady Liberty, Major Victory, American Eagle, Captain Victory, and many more!

MATTHEW: Patriotic 40s guys in the public domain get their due in remastered stories from the Golden Age? Yeah, cool, I’m in…
