Thanks to Star Wars AR stickers that I accidentally discovered in my new phone, the pictures of Widget’s eighth grade band concert feature her new robot pal, R2D2.  It’s actually kind of a dream of mine to have a robot friend, thanks to the terrible influence of Disney’s ‘The Black Hole’ on my youth.  As an adult, though, having V.I.N.Cent correct and educate me seems like it might be annoying and R2 himself is kind of an unpredictable wild card.  Machine Man would steal all the beer and The Red Tornado is always crying about something, leading us to today’s cybernetic query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) would definitely choose K.I.T.T. because he’s bulletproof, keeps me from having to walk places and won’t come inside and annoy me unless I wear my two-way wrist radio, asking: Which fictional artificial intelligence would you want for your robot pal?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

  1. I was going to suggest Mike (Mycroft) from Heinlein’s The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. In fact, he was kind of an imaginary friend of mine 45 years ago. But he was not especially mobile. So, I would choose Andromeda Ascendant. Intelligent, fierce, beautiful, and a WARSHIP with planetary destruction abilities.

  2. if the MCU, pre-Vision version of Jarvis counts (just the omnipresent voice/program), i’d say that. if we’re talking about a fully automated, walking-talking robot, yeah i’d have to agree with Data.

Good question. I considered many options, but its Pyuko, an A.I. operating system from Akiba’s Trip Animation.
