Thanks to a recent Family Guy rerun, I was reminded of the existence of Catdog, a cartoon which is…  about a cat?  Who is also a dog?  I guess?  I’ll be honest: I only know the show by reputation and a gamer friend who sang the theme incessantly for nearly no reason.  Presumably, since the show fell right in the area when I moved halfway across the state and we had a child, I just missed everything other than its existence and the theme song, which is a strange experience for me, leading to today’s conjoined query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) wonders why I haven’t sought out the show, seeing as it stars Spongebob and Darkwing, asking: What notable bit of pop culture do you know only by reputation?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

  1. I was going to say “Twilight”, but then I remembered I did watch the first couple of films to shut a friend up (there is a day of my life I will never get back). But I’m sure everyone has put up with something they hate because someone cute pestered them until they gave in.

I’m going to go with “One Punch Man”. Honestly, it seems like it would be on my radar, and I’ve had countless friends and others tell me it sounds like something I would enjoy, I just… Haven’t seen any of it, either the manga or anime.

I could also name a ton of popular video games and franchises, but then I’m a little more into the niche games that have a premise or game mechanics I enjoy.

  2. Harry Potter. ain’t never seen the movies, ain’t never read the books. and i’m not necessarily saying that in a contrarian way, but the books took off while i was in high school, so i never really got into them.

Seinfeld – never watched an episode
Hunger Games and Twilight – never watched any of the movies
