Twice a year on 4th of July and New Year’s Day, I find myself enjoying SyFy Channel’s annual ‘Twilight Zone’ marathon, even though I’ve seen most every episode multiple times…  Even fifty years later, I’m pleasantly surprised to see how well the episodes hold up, and each iconic Twilight Zone moment brings back a frisson of fear, a bit of the arcane or at least an entertaining bit of dialogue.  Even the worst of them (in case you’re wondering, that would be Season 5’s “Come Wander With Me”, though “Black Leather Jackets” is another sack of doorknobs) presents a bit of broadcast television history, and the best are celebrations not only of classic television, but of humanity itself.  Plus, it’s also a scream to try to figure out where else you know the actors from, which in turn begs today’s Fifth Dimensional query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is also quite entertained to note that I cannot find an actual incidence of Rod Serling saying “Picture if you will”, asking: What’s the most iconic Twilight Zone moment of them all?

It’s between this one and Shatner seeing the thing on the wing of the plane.

But I think you nailed it. Everyone knows the book guy breaking his glasses.

“The Guy” breaking his glasses aka Burgess Meredith, came to mind first. As my regina pile increases, will I have enough time or will my glasses break?

Runner-up, from “The Silence:” “I knew that I would not be able to keep my part of the bargain, so one year ago I had the nerves to my vocal cords severed!”

Definitely, “Time Enough at Last” (Burgess Merideth’s episode)
One of my favorites is “The Invaders.” A woman (the mother-in-law from Bewitched) being harassed by miniature space aliens from Earth.

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!
