Having fun listening to this storyline, lots of great roleplay and characters, sounds like they are having fun too. The few times when things drag and/or become generally unsatisfying (from my perspective) are almost always when they actually engage with the rules, thankfully the vast majority of time they don’t. I am sure this system and related ones truly elevate some people’s games in ways they crave but I have yet to see it for myself. Thankfully whether they like the system or not they are being extremely uncritical so it hasn’t turned into the 5e debacle.
When will you go back to the original game ?
Original game? All of our games are original – except for that one time we did a prepackaged DnD 5E game… oof.
Thanks for your question!
Sorry for the confusion. I’m talking about the 4th editing game. The original or founding game with Rodrigo Lopez as the GM. Will this game ever come back or is Critical Hits future a collection of short stories?
Ah, you mean The Void Saga. I don’t think we’ve ever said it wouldn’t come back… so yes, it will be making a return. Make sure you are following @MajorSpoilers on Twitter for an announcement about upcoming episodes of Critical Hit. It’s kind of beginning to sound like you don’t like the main game Stephen? I know it’s called the Void Saga, or Vertex, but to a lot of it us, it is the original critical hit game, because it was the one that started it all. And it’s also the main game to a lot of us, because it’s been the one going on for the longest, and the sort of biggest arc in the show. And you guys have been calling it the main game on the podcast through the years.
I love the story, and the game, and it sort of feels like you’re stamping on it when you pretend to not know what’s meant by “the original” game.
When people call the void saga the main game, or the original game, or the main story, or whatever, it’s really out of passion and love for the show.
My favorite storyline is the void saga (aka original game) too. But I think we also need to remember that the Major Spoilers crew are amateurs with day jobs who are doing this for fun, and that running a great game like that takes a lot out of a GM, even a great one like Rodrigo. I want Rodrigo to be able to take breaks without having to give up episodes of CH. I really enjoy it when other members of the Major Spoilers crew take over to give us insights into other game systems, DM styles, or settings. And then we also get to hear Rodrigo in action as a player. And you don’t even have to pay for it, if you can’t afford to (but you should, so CH stays around)!
Of course, we will like some of those systems more than others, but it is better this way than us buying the game ourselves and then finding out we don’t like it. So keep up the good work!
