Phil Connors (Bill Murray’s character in ‘Groundhog Day’) had two pieces of advice that I always try to live my life by: “Keep The Talent Happy” and “Don’t Drive Angry.”  Of course, having spent years trapped in the same frigid February day, he had a unique perspective on life that most of us don’t get, even wondering why he couldn’t have had the day in Hawaii with the beautiful girl and the sunset for eternity.  It made me wonder where James T. Kirk might want to spend eternity (it would certainly involve green women and equally verdant space booze) or how awesome it might be to live as Luke Skywalker, hero of the battle of Yavin.  Of course, he would have to kiss his sister over and over again for 10,000 years, but he didn’t learn that until later, and later WILL NEVER COME!  This, in turn, begs today’s (admittedly outré) query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) wonders if it’s too early for flapjacks and has a little bit of deja vu, asking: What one day of pop culture would you choose to live over and over again?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

  1. I feel like no matter what awesome day I pick, all the various permutations of it would get old after awhile. So I’m gonna cheat slightly and go with either the day Doc Brown picked up Marty in the newly revamped flying DeLorean with the Mr. Fusion. So when I get bored with all the ways to play out the day, I can visit any other day and screw around with it.

Or the day Aladdin found the magic lamp. There are tons of different ways to use three wishes to keep things interesting.
