Iron Fist was thirty years deep in continuity before the brilliant idea to address the “ceremonial hero legacy” part of his back story.  With the introduction of Orson Randall (himself based on the Golden Age hero Amazing-Man, a major influence on the creation of Iron Fist), we were given a glimpse into a greater world featuring an endless line of Fists stretching back into infinity, without which we would never have learned about Wu Ao Shi, the Pirate Queen Iron Fist of the sixteenth century.

So, yeah, Danny’s life is more interesting and engaging blah blah blah, but… PIRATE QUEEN IRON FIST, Y’ALL!
