Love the show! A good clean podcast is Sneak Attack. They’re a 5e actual play show, and they’re really role play focused. I think “hell” is the worst language they use.
A great Podcast that keeps it clean and funny that I listen to with my kids is “Relics of the Past”. Found on ITunes and Google play. The DM Michael Polkinghorn is the father to two of his players and the other three are hilarious as the bad puns fly. Check it out!
Yes! We have been Critical Hit fans since Episode 1. When we went looking for another clean podcast we really couldn’t find one so we started Relic of the Past!
I… am not sure I’ve ever seen a game where the GM’s set up two of the players to directly oppose each other. I am pretty excited to see where this is going, and pretty astonished that Brian’s going there.
Second on Sneak Attack! I have had the same question as Joy, and Sneak Attack is the only other podcast in the RPG play genre that is clean that I have found. While I have listened to Critical Role, it certainly is not clean.
You can check out RollPlay on itmejp’s YouTube channel. It is good quality. I have listened to over 360 hours of there various games. I can’t say how clean it is. There probably is at least a little, because I don’t believe they have any rules or problems with using adult language, but it never seems excessive. The YouTube videos are free, but if you want .mp3, that requires a $5 / Month Patreon. I have listened to their Star Wars game, their Fate Accelerated (Guardians of the Galaxy sort-of universe), and the 5th Edition D&D. The D&D game might have more explicit language because it is much more bloody than Critical Hit. Players actually die outside of some big climatic battle at the end of a season.
Enjoying the story that you guys are collaborating on. Funny side note, I noticed that Brian’s NPC’s sigh a lot. Obviously it’s a DM quirk, but it made me wonder what my quirk is when I run games, lol. Brian does a good job setting up modern stories. Kudos.
The only other clean real play podcast I can think of is Campaign, which is an Edge of the Empire (so, Star Wars) realplay podcast. While I do think they swear in the first few episodes, early enough they start replacing every swear word with canon curses from the Star Wars universe, which makes clean language-wise! (It is NSFW, but that’s due to the content and not the language, so if that’s your only issue, I really recommend it – it’s my favourite besides Critical Hit)
I recently started listening to Friends at the Table, they are both clean and very roleplay oriented. They always play powered by the apocalypse systems, and their current campaign (my jumping on point), Twilight Mirage, is a very beautiful sci-fi adventure. I’ve listened to the first 10 episodes and am completely enthralled. their motto is “critical world building, smart characterization, and fun interactions between good friends” which is pretty much as wholesome as it gets in my opinion.
As a 5e player I had to give up on sneak attack because I couldn’t handle the way they don’t know the rules at all, but hopefully they’ve improved? I was listening when their podcast first started but I only lasted through 12 episodes or so.
Thank you all for the suggestions. I am really enjoying Sneak Attack, and will check out the others soon. :)
