IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD

The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.

The Damned #7THE DAMNED #7
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Brian Hurtt
Publisher: Oni Press
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: If Eddie is already dead, why are so many people so determined to kill him? Nonstop action and mayhem dominate this issue as Eddie’s cursed brother, Morgan, has to drag Eddie’s dead and deadly corpse around town while trying to figure out why so many people are after his brother!

STEPHEN: As I said on this week’s Major Spoilers Podcast, this is a surprisingly good book, with a very morbid story – it feels like Weekend at Bernie’s ran into What Dreams May Come. I’m curious now to read the previous six books to see if the same vibe runs throughout, but for now, this is a good book to read this week.

Dejah Thoris #0DEJA THORIS #0
Writer: Amy Chu
Artist: Pasquale Qualano
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
Cover Price: $0.25
SOLICITATION: The untold story of the Red Martian princess! After learning of the legendary Gardens of Mars from her grandfather, Dejah Thoris, Princess of Helium, sets off on a dangerous scientific expedition to save her dying planet. But things don’t go the way she planned when she encounters a mysterious Green Martian prisoner… A prequel to Edgar Rice Burroughs’ beloved book A Princess of Mars.

RODRIGO: I’m usually not a fan of #0 issues, but the art looks cool and the price is right!

DETECTIVE COMICS #972
Writer: James Tynion IV
Artist: Miguel Mendonca, Diana Egea
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $5.99
SOLICITATION: “Fall Of The Batmen” part four! Batman might have overpowered the Victim Syndicate, but they had one last surprise for him: a secret weapon that’s made one of his strongest rogues nearly unstoppable!

WAYNE: This book continues to sparkle, and I can’t wait to read each issue! Don’t miss it!

THE FLASH #38
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Scott Kolins
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: “A Cold Day in Hell” finale! The Flash and an unlikely ally must discover who is behind the death of one of the Rogues before the murderer strikes again! But Flash is trapped inside of Iron Heights with one person blocking his exit: Captain Cold!

STEPHEN: The Flash returns to The CW next week, which means now is a great time to check out the adventures of The Flash in jail, before… you know… Barry goes to jail on The Flash.

WAYNE: Mr. Williamson keeps taking Barry Allen where no Flash has gone before! I love this title, and it still costs only $2.99!

JIM HENSON POWER OF DARK CRYSTAL #10
Writer: Simon Spurrier
Artist: Nichole Matthews, Kelly Matthews
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: Kensho and Thurma finally make it to the home of the Firelings, and Kensho learns long-hidden secrets.

RODRIGO: This is probably not a great jumping on point but I’m curious about this series, I read the one that was a backstory for Aughra and was pleasantly surprised.

STABBITY BUNNY #1
Writer: Richard Rivera
Artist: Dwayne Biddix, Liezl Buenaventura
Publisher: Scout Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Stabbity Bunny could take place at the Intersection of Nightmare on Elm Street and Sesame Street. A seven-year-old girl and her 100-year-old plush rabbit must battle evil.

WAYNE: Full disclosure – I serve as editor for this horror mystery comic, but I still love the story, the characters, and the fact that Scout Comics has picked up this title! Highly recommended!

WITCHBLADE #2
Writer: Caitlin Kitteridge
Artist: Robert Ingranata
Publisher: Top Cow
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “LIFE AFTER,” Part Two Struggling to adapt to her new life as the Witchblade’s host, Alex finds she’s the prime suspect in the death of an NYPD detective—and that the dead cop had powerful and corrupt friends who will do anything to keep his shady business quiet. But in the world of the Witchblade, nothing is quite what it seems, and Alex soon learns that there’s more than greed and graft at play inside the circle of corruption. The bent cops also have a supernatural backer, and Alex has just landed in his crosshairs.

RODRIGO: Still making my mind up about this one, but for now I’m picking it up.
