IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
BATMAN CREATURE OF THE NIGHT #2
Writer: Kurt Busiek
Artist: John Paul Leon
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $5.99
SOLICITATION: In a world where Batman is only a comic book character, young Bruce Wainwright is starting to feel a surprising strength and power grow inside him…and after years of mourning the loss of his parents, that power feels good–intoxicating, even! The question is, to what use will he put it?
STEPHEN: The first issue was so incredible I can’t wait to see what Kurt Busiek and John Paul Leon offer up for this second issue. How do you deal with a tulpa? Maybe it’s not a tulpa, but dangit, I want to know how Bruce Wainwright deals with his Batman demons.
WAYNE: It’s great to read Busiek again, and he’s doing a fascinating job on a “real life” Batman. Highly recommended!
DOOMSDAY CLOCK #2 (OF 12)
Writer: Geoff Johns
Artist: Gary Frank
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: DC and Watchmen characters collide at last! The story that began in DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1 comes to a thrilling and unexpected crescendo in the pages of this titanic twelve-issue series by the all-star team that brought you BATMAN: EARTH ONE and SHAZAM! In this second chapter: The Dark Knight discovers another relic from the Watchmen world. Lex Luthor pays a devil’s bargain. And killer clowns trek through Gotham seeking a madman.
STEPHEN: Yeah, the first issue was really solid, and regardless if you think DC should or shouldn’t be doing this, you should check this book out for no other reason than to see what DC is doing and laying out for us for the next decade.
WAYNE: Mr. Johns, as he often does, blew my brains out with the first issue. What’s coming next is anybody’s guess! Love this book!
HAWKMAN FOUND #18
Writer: Jeff Lemire
Artist: Bryan Hitch, Kevin Nowlan
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: One of DC’S greatest heroes is missing! No one has seen or heard from Carter Hall-a.k.a. Hawkman-in years. Reincarnated repeatedly since the dawn of humanity, Hawkman has spent his many lives uncovering history’s most fantastic mysteries, and now he has become one himself! Take a journey into one of the darkest corners of the DC Universe as a mysterious man tries to piece together what happened to Hawkman, and how it all connects to the events of DARK NIGHTS: METAL!
WAYNE: It is SO GOOD for this big fan to see Hawkman back and flying high! This is a must-read for me!
RASPUTIN: THE VOICE OF THE DRAGON #3
Writer: Mike Mignola, Chris Roberson
Artist: Christopher Mittens
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Rasputin’s allies pursue their own goals as Professor Bruttenholm parachutes into Nazi territory in search of ”The Master.”
STEPHEN: Stop what you are doing right now and buy this book. Buy the previous two issues, and then sit and read these issues during your lunch break, your afternoon break, and then read them again as you sit by the fire with your cognac. Then refill your glass and re-read them again. And again. You’re welcome.
