The New Mutants movie arrives in April, and though it is set in the X-Men Universe, this feels more like a horror film than a superhero flick.

I don’t know about you, but I really like the horror aspect of this trailer. Blending genres may be exactly what superhero movies need. Deadpool did it with the ribald humor, Old Man Logan brought the western to superheroes, and now The New Mutants gives us the scary scary without trying to turn it into some Unbreakable gimmick.

The New Mutants is an upcoming American horror film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, distributed by 20th Century Fox. It is intended to be the eleventh installment in the X-Men film series. The film is being directed by Josh Boone from a screenplay by himself and Knate Lee, and stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga. In The New Mutants, a group of young mutants held in a secret facility fight to save themselves.

I hope it isn’t just a gimmick trailer to cash in on this being the season of spooky stuff.
