5. An actual log fire while out doors, preferably a late summer early fall evening. Also have to have roasted marshmallows on the fire as at least one has fallen in. Just a great overall experience.
4. Topps Bubblegum – A smell that most millennials will never experience. But the smell of opening up Topps Baseball Cards as a kid and getting that wonderful aroma of some stale crummy gum was amazing. Double Bubble around Halloween comes close but just isn’t the same.
3. The scent of Mountain Pine, I’m not talking about walking up to a pine tree and sniffing it. But specifically just being in the mountains and getting a waft of the pine trees on the air. This typically happens when the trees are excreting some sap but that slightly sweet smell carried on some fresh mountain air away from the smoggy air of the city is refreshing and invigorating.
2. The smell of a fresh snowfall. The joys of being in Colorado is that we have a few things that purge the brown cloud we’re starting to develop. One of those is anytime we have a big snowfall throughout the night the next morning is wonderfully refreshing as the air is clean and crisp. Something about the cold clean scent mostly untainted is the best energy boost I’m able to get in mornings. This smell is even better when you wake up in the mountains to it.
1. Lilac. Sadly most of the lilac bushes in the state are being removed but the smell of lilacs on a spring or summer evening just make me happy. There used to be stretch of road where the bushes lined the entire fence of a neighborhood and if I needed an emotional pick me up I’d go drive by with my windows down and just feel amazing. Something about that flower just makes my brain happy.
