During the San Diego Comic-Con panel for Lucasfilm publishing it was announced that a Thrawn series was in the works from Marvel Comics.
Okay, okay, tone it down, I can hear you yelling “Hell, Yeah” all the way over here.
The series will be written by Jody Houser, with Luke Ross and Nolan Woodard taking on art duties.
And before you ask, yes, this is an adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn novel – even though that novel isn’t part of the new Star Wars canon. I suspect the best parts of the novel will be taken to be part of this new canon (very much like what we’ve seen in the animated series), and once the comic book has been released it will actually be canon…. yes, my head hurts, too thinking about it.
Keep in mind, this isn’t the first time the Thrawn Trilogy has been adapted. Dark Horse Comics did the first comic book series way back in the ’90s.
It’s finally here! We’re doing a THRAWN mini series!!! By @Jody_Houser & @LukeRossMarvel!!! pic.twitter.com/JKPPLA16aE

Be on the lookout for Star Wars: Thrawn to arrive in 2018 from Marvel Comics.
In addition to the Thrawn series, Lucasfilm and Marvel announced a number of new Star Wars books also coming our way before or during Star Wars: The Last Jedi release.
Admit it, Chewie and the Porgs and BB-Ate are the two must have books to add to your collection.

That novel is part of the new canon. It came out earlier this year. The earlier Dark Horse adaptations were from the old canon (Legends), but if this is adapting the Thrawn novel, then it’s the new one which was about the new canon Thrawn from Rebels.
Looking forward to it. Hopefully this means they are trying to expose Thrawn to a wider audience, possibly for more appearances in other media? I can only dream, right?
Yeah… confusion abounds thanks to “new canon”
If you have been watching Star Wars Rebels, Thrawn has played a major role in this last season. For those who never read the books, he is a menace in the series, and more people probably know about him now than did before.
