When it comes to the age-old question of “Pirates vs. Ninjas”, I had always been squarely on the side of the ninjers, with their throwing stars and split-toe boots and such.  In recent years, I’ve moved more to the side of the pirates, thanks mostly to Super Sentai’s Captain Marvelous and his band of multihued awesome brigands.  (I also do a mean Captain Jack Sparrow, but I find that series to be seriously played out these days.)  There’s something appealing about grabbing a sabre, hoisting the mainsail and figuring out what in the world a mizzenmast is, and the rating of Best Pirate is largely subjective, leading us to today’s kaizoku query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) still doesn’t know much o’ nothin’ about ‘One Piece’, but mebbe you guys can educate me, asking: Which pirate is the BEST pirate?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

And a nice red uniform.

Six way tie between the entire Gokaiger team. Seven if you count AkaRed as a pirate, since he was leader of Marvelous’s previous pirate crew, The Red Pirate Gang.
