There are an endless series of jokes about the premise of ‘Gilligan’s Island’, but the most intriguing ones involve the mental prowess of Professor Roy Hinkley Jr., PH. D.  If taken at face value, the sheer volume of his multi-disciplinary knowledge is incredibly impressive, even a little intimidating, marking him as among the smartest of the fictional geniuses.  Sure, Reed Richards can create endless wonders within his fully appointed Baxter Building, but what might he be able to do with primitive stone tools and various jungle fauna?  Brainiac 5’s multi-lab is a fountain of discovery, but would even the Coluan have a clue about creating a sophisticated irrigation system to feed his Legion pals?  Indeed, all coconut-and-hole-in-the-boat jokes aside, The Professor’s creativity and resourcefulness in his desperate circumstances prove the breadth of his intellect to be the equal of any Wile E. Coyote or Lex Luthor, leading to today’s intellectual query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) would point naysayers to S1E8, “Goodbye, Island”, during which the ship is damaged far beyond repair thanks to Gilligan’s miracle glue, asking: Which fictional genius do you consider to be the smartest of them all?

About Author

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

Eega Beeva from Mickey Mouse comics. Those little pants have pockets that apparently hold every single thing that exists. Its super impressive.

  2. The original Billy Cranston. I mean, he’s just this guy from Earth, but he built the Rad Bug, the wrist communicators, dimensional portals and lots of other stuff far beyond normal Earth tech capabilities. And that doesn’t even take into consideration things he did like figuring out how to use the Shogunzords and upgrading weapons and such. And then there is the stuff that was cut, such as the Phantom Ranger was apparently supposed to be Billy using a suit and powers he developed on his own while on Aquitar.
