8) CAPTAIN MARVEL (but not Carol Danvers)
During the superhero boom of the late 60s, often attributed to the success of ‘Batman’ on television, pulp publisher Myron Fass got in the comic book business. Known for putting out as much product as possible in order to maximize profits, M.F. Enterprises’ most recognizable hero is a legendary knockoff. A robot who calls himself Roger Winkle, with the power to split his body at any joint, Captain Marvel faced down the likes of Plastic Man, Doctor Doom and other copyright-violating characters. (Adding to the photocopied hilarity, his kid sidekick was one Billy Baxton.)
