Elemental powers make up a disproportionately large portion of superhuman abilities, and it seems that lightning-throwers are about half of those.  From the Legion’s Ranzz dynasty to the Avengers’ Living Lightning and even X-Man Storm get in on the electrical powers, and no less a luminary than Pikachu himself is seen leading the charge (pun fully intended.)  For my money, any contender for best electrical hero will find it hard to beat Ayla Ranzz (Lightning Lass of The Legion) who took on her brother’s very identity to find out whether the Legionnaires had any inside information on his death, then became a stalwart member of the Legion for a couple of decades, leading us to today’s high-voltage query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is also a fan of Black Lightning and his spiritual descendants Black Vulcan, Static and Soul Power, asking: Which lightning wielder is the BEST electrical hero?

I think its Storm. Prominent character from my favorite Marvel team of all time.

I want to say Godzilla as some incarnations have some form of an electrical ability, but it isn’t a power seen too often, or at least not consistent like the atomic style attacks, so I’m not sure I can justify it.

So I’m going to have to go with the DCAU version of Static.

Lord help me, but my inner child is insisting that I say it’s “Johnny B” from the old “Misfits of Science” TV series. But given that I haven’t seen the show since it aired over 30 years ago, the memory may outshine reality.

    Raiden from Mortal Combat>
When I played that game in the college pub in the 1990’s, Raiden was my guy. When I beat the game with him, I moved onto Scorpion and others, but I often went back to the God.

Matthew Peterson

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

And a nice red uniform.
