As a fan of The Sixth Doctor, I’m well-aware of the fact that he’s arrogant, bloviating, infuriating and egotistical.  But, somehow, those negative aspects are part of his charm, much like his off-putting ensemble: Without the veneer of pleasantness,  his genius alien nature is even more enhanced.  Not every jerk can be a lovable jerk (Sorry, Hal), but those who pull it off, like Jayne Cobb or Ol’ Sixie, are often wonderful to behold, leading to today’s combative query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) would like to remind you that Stephen and I aren’t fictional and thus don’t count, asking: Who is the most lovable jerk in all of pop culture?

Greg House, the vicodin addicted genius doctor who solved all kinds of weird medical puzzles.

Han Solo. Yeah, he starts as kind of a jerk, so it counts, right?

Matthew Peterson

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

And a nice red uniform.
