2) CAPTAIN AMERICA (Roscoe Simons)
We have already referenced the fact that John Walker stepped in to the role of Cap when Steve Rogers quit in the 1980s, but it wasn’t the first time that had happened. A decade or so earlier, Steve abandoned his country’s colors in despair upon discovering that “a highly placed government official” (*coughNixoncough*) was actually serving as leader of The Secret Empire, a fascist army. Several people tried and failed to become the new Captain America while Steve became Nomad, and eventually young Roscoe Simons took his own shot at sporting the red-white-and-blue. His was a short-lived career, as Roscoe crossed paths with The Red Skull and was murdered as a warning to any other would-be Captains. As tragic as it was, Roscoe’s death made Steve Rogers realize that the role of Captain America is his responsibility, and he returned to the role.

No Bucky/Winter Soldier run of Cap? Was this due to it being too dark of a run of Cap?
