Following the events of Storm King’s Thunder, adventurers begin The Cloaked Ascendancy by returning to the city to mourn the loss of a hero and friend. When the ceremony is interrupted by Gyrion and his mages, adventurers set out to stop their evil plot. The River District, a new adventure zone, sets the stage for players to complete an all-new campaign, battle in a skirmish, conquer a re-vamped high-end Spellplague Caverns dungeon and more. Here’s an extensive list of the new features in The Cloaked Ascendancy:
· New Adventure Zone: Following its recent reclamation, The River District is quickly annexed by the Cloaked Ascendancy and serves as the setting for much of this new expansion.
· New Campaign: Drive the Cloaked Ascendancy from the River District to return it to its former glory and restore Neverwinter.
· Spellplague Caverns Dungeon: The culmination of The Cloaked Ascendancy, adventurers will experience the returning dungeon in an all-new epic version, as well as a levelling version.
· New Skirmish: “The Illusionist’s Gambit” presents an all-new highly dynamic challenge to adventurers where each attempt at the skirmish can be completely different than the last.
· New Artifact Weapons: Themed after the many locales players will explore in The Cloaked Ascendancy, these new weapons allow adventurers to harness the power of the Far Realm.

I have not played this game before, but I’m going to bet more than a few of you have. What is it like? Is it a WoW type game? Is it a huge time sink? It says free, but how many in game purchases do you need in order to fully enjoy the game?
So many questions… too little time to play.

For the PC version, if you download the Arc launcher and do daily logins, you can earn points to use for free cash shop currency (5000 points for $5 of currency).
But except for a few fluff items and a few lockbox keys for special fluff items, I’ve barely spent any actual cash on the game. Except for a few paid unlock races, there are no limitations for race/class choice (I unlocked the Dragonborn race during a sale with cash I saved up from the Arc login rewards).
And there are giveaways ALL the time, with companions (basically NPC party members or combat pets with their own skills and abilities), mounts, enhancements and all sorts of other items from the cash shop given away completely free. For example, back around Christmas they gave away a wolf mount, a knight companion and various enhancement items (a different item being given away every day). Some of the giveaways are even exclusive items, equal to a cash shop item but can only be acquired when they are giving it away.
Now, there are some limitations to accounts that aren’t subbed for premium, but I personally have not found it to be as limiting as many other games. I’m not a super hardcore player, but I play fairly often and haven’t come across any major limitations in playing by not subbing.
