8) LOBO (1965)
The first black superhero with their own solo series was still a ways down the pike when Dell Comics debuted Lobo, the first black character to star in their own solo title, in 1965. In adventures set shortly after the Civil War, Lobo is a gunslinger who doesn’t care for violence, who possesses a gold mine (much as the Lone Ranger did a silver one) and travels the plains balancing the scales of justice, leaving behind a coin with his namesake animal on it. His book wasn’t too far from the beaten path (I Retro Reviewed the first issue here) and only lasted 3 issues, but they nonetheless cemented his place in comic book history as the first black character to headline his own title.

I’d like to put an honorable mention for Nubia, the black Wonder Woman, who appeared in Wonder Woman comics in the early 1970s.
While Nubia may not be the first black female superhero, she was the first to have a Mego doll made of her:

Mal Duncan (1970), aka Hornblower, aka Guardian, aka Herald, aka Vox, of the Teen Titans deserves an honorable mention.
