IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
ARCHIE #15
Writers: Mark Waid with Lori Matsumoto
Artists: Joe Eisma, Andre Szymanowicz, Jack Morelli
Publisher: Archie Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: For a while after Veronica’s departure, no woman was around who could wreck the Jughead/Archie bromance. We all knew that couldn’t last forever, right? Meanwhile, the Veronica vs. Cheryl Blossom feud reaches its peak!
STEPHEN: Archie continues to be a great read, and thanks to Waid and company, the nature of the storytelling and the ultimate payoff is so much more satisfying than Archie comics of years past. Definitely worth your time to grab this issue (and the previous fourteen).
CAVE CARSON HAS A CYBERNETIC EYE #3
Writer: Gerard Way
Artist: Michael Avon Oeming
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Cave and his ad hoc team of spelunkers (his daughter Chloe and best-bud mechanic Jack Wheeler) have answered the call to adventure! But as they search for the lost city of Muldroog, Cave’s employer sends a crack team of his own in the latest in subterranean transportation: the Mighty Mole MK 2, led by a famed explorer from Cave’s past. And it looks like they’re out for more than just the return of EBX property… This issue features a variant cover by Paul Rentler that combines with this month’s other variant covers from DC’S Young Animal to form a single image.
MATTHEW: All the Young Animal titles have been very appealing, but Cave Carson is my favorite of the group. It’s unique, charismatic and interesting, plus excellent Oeming art!
JEM: MISFITS #1
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Jenn St. Onge
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Their songs may be better, but the Misfits have lost their label and nobody will touch them in the music business. On the ropes and desperate to get back on top, they’re forced to consider the worst case scenario…A MISFITS REALITY TV SHOW. Though it promises the chance to get them back in the spotlight, it comes with a heavy, privacy-destroying price.
• Learn how The Misfits first came together!
• Will a Misfits Reality Show be the thing that will finally tear them apart… forever?!
• Misfit’s first ever series of their own!
MATTHEW: Jem has been really good, and this spinoff has been a long time in the making. Can they prove their songs are better? Probably not, but it’ll be fun to watch ‘em try…
LOCKE & KEY: SMALL WORLD
Writer: Joe Hill
Artists: Jay Fotos and Gabriel Rodriguez
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Three years after wrapping up their award-winning, best-selling Locke & Key saga, the team that built Keyhouse returns to Lovecraft, Massachusetts with a new tale of terror and suspense! An impossible birthday gift for two little girls unexpectedly throws open a door to a monster on eight legs!
STEPHEN: HOLY COW! A NEW LOCKE & KEY!? Yes, this is a fun read, and yes, there is a giant spider in the book. If you love Locke & Key as much as I do, you already have this on your pull list. If you don’t then you need to grab this issue today.
ULTIMATES 2 #2
Writer: Al Ewing
Artist: Travel Foreman
