There are a lot of fictional worlds that are just terrible: The Marvel Universe; the authoritarian future world of ‘Firefly’; wherever those ponies live… Dystopian fictional worlds are a staple of storytelling dating back to the earliest cavemen days, where at least one cave painting depicted how much the people on the other side of the veldt’s lives suck. Still, some characters thrive in such terrible settings; Judge Dredd, for instance, makes Mega-City One seem almost tolerable, leading to today’s wastelandery query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is always a little bit bemused by those who don’t realize that Judge Dredd IS the problem, not the solution, asking: What fictional character makes the best of their terrible, dystopian world?

WALL-E. He got the girl (robot), he rescued people, and saved the planet.
Nothing is as dystopian as Warhammer 40K. Winner goes to Imperium of Man. They got it all. Inquistion, technocarcy, Emperor worshipped as a god. Million genetically engineered SS-troo..erm Space marines. You got the idea.
