Here’s the thing about Ford Prefect: He’s a hedonist, a layabout and has a serious drinking problem, but he gives good advice.  Time is an illusion.  Life is like a grapefruit.  Always know where your towel is.  But best of all is the advice emblazoned on his ever-present Hitch-hiker’s Guide: Don’t Panic.  With the possible exception of Superman, no other imaginary friend has been quite as profound, leading to today’s recommended query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) XXXXX asks: What’s the best advice you ever got from your pop culture?

    For motivation: “Just keep swimming”

    For courage: “Don’t panic”

For avoiding confrontation: “Leave the gun, take the canoli”

“Courage isn’t just a matter of not being frightened, you know. It’s being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway.” – The Doctor (3rd incarnation)

“A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting.” – The Doctor (3rd incarnation)

    And my favorite:

“There’s no point in being grown up if you can’t be childish sometimes!” – The Doctor (4th incarnation)

Matthew Peterson

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

And a nice red uniform.
