If you still have your old Pokemon cards sitting in your closet, you might want to dig them out and see if any of them are worth $54,970. That is how much the Pokemon Pikachu Illustrator promo card sold at auction a couple of weeks ago.
“The Pikachu Illustrator Card was given in January of 1998 to winners of the CoroCoro Comic Illustration Contest,” said Barry Sandoval, Director of Operations for Comics at Heritage Auctions. “Only 20-39 copies of this card were released, 10 of which are graded in top condition and it is unknown how many still remain with the public.”
The first of the known Pikachu Illustrator cards sold in the early 2000s for $23,000. This particular card is considered the most valuable and iconic Pokemon Card among collectors. For the rest of us, we know the most iconic Pokemon card is the Jigglypuff XY card. No, really, ask around…

Wow, and I thought I got a good deal when I sold my “1st Edition Charizard” for $100 cash AND $175 store credit (this was back around the time of the third or fourth expansion, when the card was valued at about $300, but usually you never got the full value at shops so getting very close to it was a big deal. Could have got even more in store credit alone, but I needed the money for bills).
