There are vast and varied super-powers in the various fictional universes we love, but few of them are as common or as widely differentiated as super-speed. Jay Garrick’s debut led to hundreds of knockoffs, tributes and homages, from Marvel’s Whizzer all the way through the Tornado Twins of the 31st Century. Heck, even the lackluster live-action X-Men franchise has a couple of truly amazing sequences featuring Quicksilver in action, scenes that are seemingly cut from much better movies. When it comes to the question of who is the greatest speedster of them all, though, even mega-Flash fan Stephen isn’t sure whether it’s Max Mercury or Chromium Age Wally West, leading to today’s high velocity query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) notes that there’s no wrong answer, but the right answer is Fastback of The Zoo Crew, asking: Of all the myriad runners of pop culture, which is the greatest speedster of all?

I have an enduring fondness for the old Sonic the Hedgehog Saturday morning cartoons. Even if the games themselves have turned to crap in the most comical way possible.
