5) “I’VE GOT YOU…”
The only really successful moment in the unnecessarily dark and bloody ‘Identity Crisis’ (a book filled with terrible and mostly unmotivated acts of violence and brutality, with heroes acting like villains and just-off-panel sexual assault) comes when Tim Drake’s father faces off with Captain Boomerang, who has been sent by the Calculator to kill him. Tim, who uniquely came into the Bat-family with actual living parents, finds his father dead and collapses, leaving Batman to try to comfort him, reminding the boy that he’s not alone. It’s a moment that’s both sweet and terrifying, especially the look on Tim’s single visible eye, but there’s something incredibly touching about seeing the sometimes-emotionless Batman driven to the point of hugging a grieving child, reminding us of his own parental loss…
