If you plan on watching CBS’s Star Trek Discovery series, you’re going to have to plunk down $5.99/month to do it. If you want to watch it commercial free, you’re going to pay even more.
CBS All Acces still runs ads, even if you are paying $6.00/month? Yup. If you want to watch all of those new Star Trek episodes, you’ll need to pay $9.99/month.
“The foundation of CBS All Access is not only about giving CBS fans access to more of the content they want, but also giving them more choice in how they watch their favorite CBS programming,” said Marc DeBevoise, President and Chief Operating Officer of CBS Interactive. “The addition of a commercial-free plan gives our subscribers even more ways to customize their CBS viewing experience – from which devices to whether they watch in or out of the home, and now with commercials or without.”
I wonder if CBS really gets what the subscription fee really means, or if they are just that brilliant that we don’t see it yet. I’m going to be there are a lot of people willing to pay up to $15/month in order to get commercial free programming from CBS, but before that happens, CBS will need to add a lot of new original programming to its lineup.

I wonder if the people at CBS have lost touch with reality. Do they think ST:D will be the next Game of Thrones that people feel they MUST watch?
Granted, I’m a big Star Trek fan, but I will not shell out money for the new show. I’ll catch it a year or so later on Bluray.
I’m a Star Trek fan but there is no way I’m paying $6/month to watch something that should be on broadcast television. CBS is going to kill this era of Trek before it starts.
Thankfully here in Canada it will be broadcast on a cable network.Where I think it will belong!
Federation doesn’t use money why should I? Besides that new ship eeegh!
I’m not going to pay for a single show despite it being Star Trek and this was before I found out it will still have commercials. I think they will lose money on this scheme and we will wind up seeing it televised next summer without the fees.
Thankfully, it’s on Netflix over my side of the pond…
