Kelly Brand was the daughter of the original superheroic Fly-Girl and the second Fox of Archie Comics, initially going into battle with the New Crusaders using her mother’s nom de guerre.  After the death of her teammate, Fireball, Kelly combined their two legacies into a third, and became the new Firefly.  (The original Firefly was another Archie Comics Golden Age hero.)  Her name is shared with the members of the Firefly family from Rob Zombie’s ‘House Of 1000 Corpses’, a movie I have never gotten all the way through, thanks to its loving depiction of murderiness on a massive scale.  Intrestingly, that movie was successful enough to merit a sequel in 2005, which I presume I also won’t be able to finish.

About Author

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

  1. I think you mean 1986’s Manhunter, not Red Dragon. Red Dragon was the loose re-adaptation of Manhunter from 2002.
