With my kid out-of-town for her summer vacation, my weekends have a tendency to be less scheduled than during the school year.  As such, I took it upon myself to take a little time and complete the Stunt Jump challenge in ‘Grand Theft Auto V’, wherein I found fifty hidden jumps and used them to launch my car into outer space.  “How much time could this actually take?”, I foolishly asked myself, before spending most of an afternoon trying to land a taxicab on a lighthouse without exploding.  At 3:15 a.m., I suddenly looked up and realized that my Saturday was gone, and I was still only about halfway done with the challenge, leading to today’s chronological query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) may buy a new video game at some point, but at this point, there’s no need, asking: What show, book, movie, video game or what-have-you has been the biggest time suck for you, personally?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

Big RPG games in general, like Skyrim, Dragon Age, Knights of the Old Republic and so on, as well as many RTS games. I’ll start playing and just not realize time has passed as much as it had because I was so engrossed in the game or the storyline or something..

A couple of months back while my mother was hospitalized and she wouldn’t allow me to visit (I have a weak immune system and she worries I’d get sick and be hospitalized myself), I started playing Skyrim (which I bought during a Steam sale but had not played yet) at roughly 10 in the morning. A while passes and I realize I’d better grab some lunch. I look up, and there is no light coming in the windows. Turns out I was playing much, much longer than I thought as it was almost 8 PM. Whoops!

Several video games through the years. Its hard to say which took the most time and that can change anyway because I replay them frequently.

My biggest time sink is Skyrim with me putting in around 100 hours in a couple months. I would come home from work start playing, stop eat supper then play till I went to bed. I did that for two months and is still the only game I’ve ever put 100 hours into.
The Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince came out right before a family vacation. I spent the whole first day sitting in the cabin finishing the book.

Biggest time suck overall would be Skyrim, I have around 1,100 hours put into that game. The longest single-session time suck would be Fallout 4, when I played from about 10am to 5am the next day.
