Thanks to my weekly schedule (and the fact that I’ve never actually been particularly timely anyway), I missed the celebration of Best Friends’ Day this year.  ‘Course, I don’t know what I would have done other than what I did, which was get yelled at by strangers all day, come home, have dinner and record for the Major Spoilers Podcast Network.  Still, it does raise all sorts of questions: Are Archie and Jughead tighter than Gilligan and The Skipper?  Would the broings-on of Steve and Bucky be quantitatively superior to the partyings of Jay and Silent Bob?  Could Lily and Robin out-best friend Buffy and Willow, or would that collapse the Hannigan-Space-Time continuum?  Enquiring minds wanna know, leading us to today’s oxytocin-laced query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) finds the relationship between the Crystal Gems of ‘Steven Universe’ to be one of the most realistic depictions of friendship, asking: Who are the bestest best friends in all pop-culture?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

I’m going to go with Turk and JD from scrubs. They both know when the other’s completely zoning out, their conversations are made up entirely of weird in-jokes, and they spend most of their non-work time together doing best friend activities.
