IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
ALL NEW X-MEN #10
Writer: Dennis Hopeless
Artist: Mark Bagley
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The ALL-NEW X-MEN are on a mission to write their own futures…and none is more determined to escape their destiny than Evan Sabahnur, who is to one day become the next host for the genocidal villain APOCALYPSE. But now, by way of unintentional intervention by his teammate Beast, Evan finds himself thousands of years in the past, in Egypt…and on the run alongside his predecessor, En Sabah Nur, the boy who will one day become Apocalypse himself! To change his future, will Evan literally change the course of history? Or will he instead be Apocalypse’s first victim??
ROB: New Apocalypse, meet Original Apocalypse. Evan thrown into the past has a good chance to be interesting. More interesting to me though is what the young Beast is going to do in Ancient Egypt.
AQUAMAN REBIRTH #1
Writer: Dan Abnett
Artist: Andrew Hennessy, Bradley Walker
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: 2.99
SOLICITATION: Born to both the surface and the sea, Arthur Curry walks in two worlds but can find a home in neither. The King of Atlantis looks to reconcile his split heritage as he embarks on a new mission that may finally make him choose between his two paths.
POLITICAL PLAYER: “As the leader of a world power,” writer Dan Abnett says, “Arthur believes it’s time Atlantis became part of the global community. Atlantis has been on the outside for too long: feared, mysterious and misunderstood. But that means getting the world used to Atlantis…and vice versa.
RODRIGO: Alright rebirth, I’ll check out your Aquaman book. But just this once!
DETECTIVE COMICS #934
Writer: James Tynion IV
Artist: Eddy Barrows, Eber Ferreira
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: “RISE OF THE BATMEN” chapter one
An unknown predator begins outdoing Batman, taking down dangerous threats with military precision. It’s up to the Dark Knight and series costar Batwoman to rally and train the young heroes of Gotham City to end this mysterious threat!
WHAT NOW: Batman and Batwoman begin training Spoiler, Red Robin and Cassandra Cain, but is the villainous Clayface ready for redemption?
JON: Detective Comics, the little brother to DC’s flagship title Action Comics, returns to it’s original numbering. The talented James Tynion IV is doing the writing so we’re sure to get a great story and I’m curious to see how Clayface factors into things given his new role.
STEPHEN: I dropped Detective Comics after the first issue or two of the New 52, but now that we’re back to the original numbering, I’m ready to give the series another shot to see if it will sink or swim with this very long Batman fan.
WAYNE: I still have my reservations about Detective being a team book, but the return to original numbering is great! Also, Mr. Tynion does a great job with a variety of characters, so I’m going to dive in feet first and see what it does for me!
FLASH REBIRTH #1
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Carmine Di Giandomenico
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: Spinning directly out of the epic events of DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1, the fastest man alive finds himself at the center of a DC Universe at a crossroads.
WARNING: Do NOT read this issue until after you read DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1!
JON: I absolutely loved DC Universe: Rebirth #1 and this issue will pick up where much of that story left off. Will we see either of the Kid Flashes? If so, what part will either of them play in Barry Allen’s super heroics moving forward? Hopefully we’ll get the answers to these questions and more!
STEPHEN: You better believe I’m buying Flash Rebirth #1 this week! Wally West, Barry Allen, and who knows how many other speedsters will appear, I’m going to devour this issue as soon as it arrives on my doorstep!
WAYNE: The Flash being scripted by Joshua Williamson? I’m so there!

RODRIGO: Both the idea and the title of this initiative are great. Good work Marvel.
TMNT BEBOP & ROCKSTEADY DESTROY EVERYTHING #2
Writer: Ben Bates, Dustin Weaver
Artist: Sophie Campbell, Giannis Milonogiannis
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Bebop and Rocksteady travel to the past and meet their former selves! What could go wrong? Plus: Dinosaurs!!
ROB: Still willing to pick this up just for the title. Also, issue one was fantastic with another Renet story under way. I’m just curious if they’re going to leave the story how they originally found it.
VENOM SPACE KNIGHT #8
Writer: Robbie Thompson
Artist: Aaron Kim Jacinto
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: A symbiotic relationship has become one of HUNTER and PREY. Since separating from Flash, the Venom symbiote has left a trail of destruction in his wake.
ROB: Still thoroughly enjoying this series, and wondering how Flash is going to deal with a symbiote gone bad yet again.
WACKY RACELAND #1
Writer: Ken Pontac
Artist: Leonardo Manco
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: The world has ended, but the race has just begun! Penelope Pitstop, Peter Perfect and the rest of the Wacky Racers vie for the finish line in a contest where the winner takes all and second place is death. Today’s trial: the shattered maze of freeways known as the Überpass, where they’re beset by giant sand beasts, mutated insects, and worst of all, Dick Dastardly’s murderously poor sportsmanship. The last thing they need after surviving the race is a brutal bar fight in a local dive, but that’s just what they get!.
RODRIGO: Weirdly, this Hanna-Barbera recombobulation may be the most exciting thing happening in comics.
WONDER WOMAN REBIRTH #1
Writer: Greg Rucka
Artist: Paulo Siqueira, Liam Sharp
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: After suffering an unimaginable loss, Wonder Woman must rebuild her mission as Earth’s ultimate protector and champion.
DON’T MISS: New York Times best selling writer Greg Rucka returns to Wonder Woman with a tale that will forever alter the DC icon.
JON: The DC Universe: Rebirth special and Justice League #52 dropped the bombshell that Wonder Woman had a twin brother, Jason. If learning more about that isn’t reason enough to want to read this book, the incomparable Greg Rucka doing the writing certainly is.
STEPHEN: With Greg Rucka kicking ass all over the place, I have a feeling this book will sell out quickly. Better grab your copy before it’s gone!
WAYNE: This could be the breakout hit from Rebirth, so I’m anxious to read it! Highly recommended!
