I admit it: I crush hard and I crush easy, and given the amount of pop culture in any given week, there’s almost always at least one unexplained crush in my arsenal.  My latest is Lily, the AT&T girl, who pops up now and then during my stories and says something silly and genial to try to get me to spend $800 bucks on a cell phone.  Maybe I’m a sucker for big brown eyes or the tiny not-quite-an-accent lilt in her voice, or maybe it is as I prefer to think of it: That there’s beauty in everyone or everything, even a 30-second spokeswoman in a ponytail, leading to today’s free-with-proof-of-purchase query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) once had a serious case of the google-eyed dreamy sighs for Nicola Scott’s rendition of Black Canary, asking: Which pop-culture persona, actor or drawing (we don’t judge) constitutes your most unexplained crush?

The Sparkle paper towel fairy. I don’t know why, maybe it is the blue hair or the wings.

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

And a nice red uniform.
