Poor Wesley Crusher.  Created by Gene Roddenberry with many of his own characteristics (admittedly so, including Gene’s middle name), he was the most ill-treated of the Next Generation characters and concepts.  Even in those almost-pre-Internet days, entire newsgroups existed to complain about the character, even leaving his real-world actor scarred by the experience.  Of course, he’s not the only creator’s pet character to get such vitriol, as there are dozens of examples from John Cena to Damian Wayne to Barry Allen himself (a character who, honestly, kinda deserves his backlash) leading to today’s unfairly maligned query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) actually feels pretty positively about Wesley, and never hated him during the peak of his infamy, asking: What “creator’s pet” character that fandom hates do you still find appealing?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

And a nice red uniform.

Kazuchika Okada from New Japan Pro Wrestling. He’s clearly presented as the next face of the company and even their booker, Gedo acts his mouthpiece and hype man. That said, unlike in WWE (krhm, Roman Reigns, Cena) he’s easy to like because he’s so skilled even at somewhat young age of 28 (best dropkick in the world, I tell you) and isn’t booked as invincible superman who humiliates his opponents left and right.

Blukic and Driba from Ben 10 (I think they mostly appeared in Omniverse?). Several creators for the show love them (someone even said they wanted them to get their own spinoff), but I really don’t know many fans that actually like them other than myself and a few of my friend’s younger children. They were utterly ridiculous and probably had no reason to actually be Plumbers, but I thought they were pretty funny.
